Featured Hike: Tallulah Gorge & Tallulah Falls

Nestled in the north Georgia mountains near a Victorian resort town bearing the same name, Tallulah Falls (and the associated gorge) boasts a breathtaking natural area sure to delight outdoor lovers of any age. The gorge itself is over 1000 feet deep and over 2 miles long!

Visitors have several options to explore the gorge and visit the falls. Seven different trails offer access, ranging from 2-10 miles. Many of these require a free permit, simply so park staff have record of hikers on the trail in case of any dangerous events.

The North Rim, South Rim, and Hurricane Falls trails are the most family friendly. Our young children were easily able to conquer these trails, but there are a good number of stairs to climb. Please assess your health levels before attempting these hikes.

After parking ($5 or free with the Georgia State Parks Pass), make your way to the interpretive center where you’ll find restrooms and a gift shop. From there, take your packed lunch down the North Rim Trail and choose your path! (Map available here). You’ll encounter paved trails, dirt trails, many stairs, and a wooden suspension bridge on your way around the park. Please note that dogs are not permitted on all trails. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, consider leaving your pooch at home.

On the way back to Atlanta, stop at Jaemor Farms for some freshly made peach ice cream!

If you do this hike, please reach out! I’d love to hear about your experience.
